Currently our passion for the world’s rarest coins has led us to the elusive Panda coin program out of China. This unique program began in 1982 to compete with the South African Krugerrand, which was known as the Godfather of modern Gold coins. However, all mainland Chinese citizens were forbidden to own or possess any gold coins until 2002. The Panda coins were minted in China, then exported out of the country. Eighty (80%) of these coins found their way to the United States. Unlike any other targeted government issued coin programs in the world in that time, the Panda coins change designs on a yearly basis (except 2001 & 2002). This was appealing to many collectors and investors alike. Many of the smaller size coins found their way into jewelry including necklaces. The most amazing thing about the Panda coins and the best kept secret is the limited mintage for each size bullion coins for the first 24 plus years. Just the original mintage alone has been enough for collectors and investors to deem these coins as rare and highly collectible. However just recently the melt numbers have been discovered and they are even more rare than first thought. In addition, the amount of these coins that are considered investment grade quality are quickly disappearing.
